Slamdance Grand Jury Prize-winning film, The Dirties, by first-time filmmaker and Toronto native Matt Johnson tackles the critical subject of teenage bullying and depicts a school shooting on the big screen. Director Kevin Smith has called it “The most important film you will see all year… and the best first-time filmmaker film he has ever seen.”
On Monday it earned an official selection from The Creative Coalition (http://thecreativecoalition.org/), which only selects 10 films each year to spotlight and lobby for in D.C. They choose important films with strong messaging in the socio-political arena. Past films included Margin Call. This is HUGE for these young Toronto filmmakers.
The Dirties will have its Toronto Premiere at the Toronto After Dark Film Fest on Thursday, Sept. 26, and its Vancouver premiere at VIFF on Monday, Sept. 30. It will also have a week-long run at the TIFF Lightbox commencing October 4 in Toronto. October 4 is also the day of the Video on Demand release.
