Disney is one studio who really knows what they are doing. They already have the most successful animated films in history, their nature documentaries are excellent, their true story inspirational films are unmatched and their family films are superior to most. Their latest venture is taking their classic animated film properties and making live action adaptations for the big screen. They have already done so successfully with the films Cinderella, Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland, and Alice Through the Looking Glass. And plans are in the works for Beauty and the Beast for 2018. But this month is the release of their latest hit adaptation, The Jungle Book.
Mowgli (Neel Sethi) is a man-cub who has been raised by a family of wolves. But when the fearsome tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba), who has been scarred by men, promises to eliminate Mowgli as he sees him as a threat, Mowgli leaves the only home he has ever known to embark on a journey of self discovery guided by his mentor, the panther Bagheera (Ben Kingsley) and the free spirited bear Baloo (Bill Murray).
Disney just knows these stories and knows how to tell them right. The Jungle Book is a lush, epic adventure with something for everyone in the family. The kids will love Mowgli and his ongoing adventures as well as the host of great characters he meets on his journey. Adults will love the spectacular special effects, great action set pieces and familiar voice actors. Especially one sequence in particular featuring the voice talents of Christopher Walken. That scene alone is worth the price of admission. And everyone will enjoy the humor and music. Just in terms of quality you cannot go wrong with The Jungle Book, the Blu-ray is beyond stunning and the production design, CG animals and environments are all eye popping and gorgeous to behold. Not to mention it is just plainly one of the best stories around. Let’s hope we see more installments in Mowgli’s adventures, this could be a great new franchise. Highly recommended.
