Law & Order has long been one of my favorite television shows, and its spinoffs are nearly as good as the original. Criminal Intent ran 10 seasons and left us with one of TV’s most interesting detective’s in Vincent D’Onofrio’s Detective Robert Goren. D’Onofrio left for a while and Jeff Goldblum filled in, but in its final season D’Onofrio returned to send off the show with the character that made it what it was.
Season 8 only spanned 8 episodes, but there were definitely some memorable ones in there to bid the show farewell. Stories include the murder of a Wall Street CEO, defense contractors fighting each other and revolutionaries trying to take them down and the murder of a bank executive that was in charge of the Catholic Church’s funds in New York. Goran also starts seeing a therapist in this season which leads to some interesting insights into his unique thought process. Once again Goran is teamed up with regular partner Detective Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe) and as with their previous seasons together, the chemistry between the two is perfect. They make a very complimentary duo of detectives and their relationship is what drove the show forward for all those years. The final season may be short, but it is a fitting end to the series and a graceful curtain call.
