After thinking he was the last Blue Macaw, Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) found out he was not alone when he met Jewel (Anne Hathaway). Now the two birds are married with three young kids. While on a trip to save another bird in the Amazon, Blu’s owner Linda (Leslie Mann) and her husband/fellow bird lover Tulio (Rodrigo Santoro) discover the feather of a Blue Macaw and announce they will try to find the remaining birds within the jungles of the Amazon. Blu, Jewel and the whole gang head there as well to see if there are more of their kind but they couldn’t be prepared for who and what they will find when they get there.
The first Rio film was a really fun and musical movie for kids and adults alike to enjoy. The voice work was solid, the humor light and fun and the animation colorful and bold. Rio 2 pretty much picks up everything that was good about the first one and carries it dutifully on. The voice work by Eisenberg, Mann, Hathaway and the others is still top notch and hilarious, the animation is gorgeous and jumps off the screen and the humor is still intact. The Rio films are a little lighter than much of the family animation as of late but it is a welcome change and they are still great films for the whole family to enjoy, especially the little ones who will find the abundance of bright colors and animals thoroughly enjoyable.
The Blu-ray from 20th Century Fox is beautiful and will really show off the color reproduction on your home theatre system. Razor sharp and full of every color imaginable, the color never wavers or bleeds and the soundtrack, full of great Latin music, is bombastic and clear. Rio 2 is a winner and will undoubtedly end up in the Blu-ray player quite often.
