As I have discussed in other recent reviews of Liam Neeson movies, this guy has been on a fantastic roll becoming one of the most bankable action stars in the world. After the huge hit he had with Taken, he followed up with two sequels to that movie, two Clash of the Titans movies, a spectacular turn in the big screen version of The A-Team, The Next Three Days, Unknown, The Grey, Non-Stop, A Walk Among the Tombstones and a great comedic performance in A Million Ways to Die in the West. He even parodied his own character in Taken on multiple occasions. His newest flick keeps up the pace and adds a top notch supporting cast in Run All Night.
Professional Brooklyn hitman Jimmy Conlon (Neeson) is known as The Gravedigger to others in the crime world. He used to be best friends with mob boss Sean Maguire (Ed Harris) but when Maguire marks Conlon’s son Michael (Joel Kinnaman) for death, Jimmy must protect Michael from the very people he has worked for as well as corrupt cops and contract killers.
Run All Night is a film that really lives up to its title. This is one fast paced, tense chase movie that never lets up. Neeson and Kinnaman are great together and Harris is at his best as the very scary Maguire. And in addition to these great actors you also get the always stunning Vincent D’Onofrio as a detective trying to figure everything out and Common as a stone cold killer. Great action, great suspense, great storyline and great thrills add up to one of the best thrillers of the year. Very highly recommended.
