3D is really starting to find its foothold in the home entertainment market with loads of titles now available to consumers including major Hollywood blockbusters and smaller productions alike. Universal Studios Home Entertainment is now broadening its 3D horizons with the release of three nature documentaries about life in the ocean.
Amazing Ocean 3D is an great little film running almost an hour that was filmed natively in 3D. Witness schools of thousands of fish, swarming in unison and seeming to flow right off of your TV and into your home theater. There is also fascinating and breathtaking footage of squid, manta ray, dolphins, turtles and some unbelievable footage of the elusive octopus. The footage is stunning to behold with crystal clear picture and unprecedented detail.
Fascination Coral Reef 3D and Fascination Coral Reef 3D: Mysterious World’s Underwater both explore the strange and alien world of Coral Reef’s. Both produced by Benjamin Krause, these 3D Blu-ray’s will immerse you in the minute world of the reef’s as you witness an entire eco system contained within the immense underwater world. Swim along with blowfish and porcupine fish and gaze upon some giants of the ocean with giant morays, sea turtles and whale sharks. Watch these amazing creatures in their natural habitat as they seek out food and live within the colorful coral forests.
The 3D on these releases is very good with bright bold colors and amazing detail. Many times 3D effects are referred to as a ‘picture window’ effect, and that is what is on full display here, it is almost as if you are in a submersible of your own, but from the comfort of your couch. The colors are bold and beautiful to watch and the details on the various underwater inhabitants are well defined. The surround is phenomenal as well, taking the full 3D experience to the next level in three Blu-rays that you and your family will watch over and over again. This is truly reference quality 3D at its best.
Available on Blu-ray 3D on January 29, 2013.
